SummaryProduct Details

On the afternoon of April 12 in 2006, a massive explosion shattered the Chernobyl area. The Zone, as the area got to be known, was characterized by anomalous energy disturbances, rendering even the most advanced form of protective suits worthless to would be rescue teams. Months passed and nothing could be done. The military quarantined the area to prevent unauthorized entry and perhaps even reassure the local populace that the area was under control and confinement. Almost 4 years after the initial event, expeditions can now safely traverse several kilometers deep into the Zone. Among these are the Stalkers, poachers that enter the zone searching for artifacts and anomalous formations that are highly sought after by certain organizations and groups. The player controls a Stalker, venturing into the Zone in order to acquire information, technology and artifacts to sell and possibly put a mysterious puzzle together. Avoiding the dangers within and the military because as a Stalker you are effectively a thief, and the army that has quarantined the area, don't take kindly to trespassers. Within the Zone you will have to detect and avoid the bizarre phenomenon's (anomalies) that plague the area, avoid or eliminate various kinds of mutants and you can even expect competition from other Stalkers.

Great game! Pretty hard to start but drags in after couple battles!

A great all round shooter. The start can be hard, but you'll soon get the hang of the way things go. You are having a constant battle between russian military, bandit raiders, warring factions and hired guns. The game plays across about 4 square miles leaving you to openly explore. Scripting is kept minimal and leaves you open to play most quests as you wish. In the main plot you start as a concust STALKER on a quest to recover his memories, leading you upto the fabled sarcophagus of the Chernobyl reactor. Most of your actions with the npcs can have an effect later in the game Unfortunatly the requirments are rather high for this game and I *MUST* reconmend running the reconmended requirments, since anything low will leave the game barely playable!

The scariest game of the year! The key to STALKER's appeal is unpredictability. Although you'll find some scripted sequences and preset maps, most of the creatures in the game world are free to roam wherever they please. Imagine wandering into a darkened room only to find a set of glowing eyes skulking in the shadow... the feeling cannot be matched! Combine this with combat much like Far Cry, an inventory, dialogue and trading system much like Morrowind, and invisible traps that can literally chew you up and spit you out, and you've got the ultimate in survival horror!
